Today’s target audience of Gen Z are ranking higher on the puritanical scale, which has sparked discussion of a generational moral panic amongst young people. While the media can be a looking glass to the anxieties of society, audience reception also says a thing or two on shared ideologies amongst said society.

The horror genre is full of lessons: don’t leave your doors unlocked, check under your bed, don’t descend into a dark, mysterious basement. For some with anxiety, like me, it offers a guidebook to staying out of danger. My own anxiety stretches into traveling because I watched too many vacation horror movies.
