cat of the month

may’s cat of the month is: the the cat from coraline!

A wily, intelligent creature, The Cat is tuned into realms with more clarity than its residents: I've been coming here a while now. It's a game we play. She hates cats and tries to keep me out, but she can't, of course. I come and go as I please.

Playing a major role with Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) and initially treated with contempt, The Cat (Keith David) proves his worth through his otherworldly prowess. Introduced to us through Coraline's neighbour Wybie (Robert Bailey Jr.), The Cat appears at Coraline's aid despite her unwelcoming demeanour. Yet The Cat doesn't care for her acceptance -- he merely lives his life on his own terms, helping those he sees as deserving.

As Coraline warms to The Cat, Other Mother (Teri Hatcher) maintains her disdain for the skinny kitty. In their newly formed alliance, Coraline and The Cat use their wits to outsmart Other Mother's manipulations. A central character in the Coraline tale, this story would've had a far more morbid ending without him. Thanks, Cat!
